DO YOU TRAVEL FULL-TIME?
While we spend many weeks of the year travelling, exploring, and adventuring to new places, we also feel grateful to call Canada home for most of the year. We mostly work remotely, but Adam’s wedding photography operates primarily out of Ontario and British Columbia in the summer months.
HOW DO YOU AFFORD TO TRAVEL SO MUCH?
For the work that we do, travel is often part of the job. We are photographers and creators, so we’re able to work mostly remotely, and being on the move also means our office is with us wherever we go! Our work benefits from travel in many ways; it allows for diverse shooting locations, new perspectives, and flexibility in avoiding unfavourable weather.
When we travel beyond work, we find ways to keep our expenses low — shopping at local grocery stores, avoiding eating out, using apps to find cheap gas, the basics. A big component of our financial freedom has been keeping our overhead low - we have very few personal expenses beyond food, gas, insurance and phone bills. We pay minimal rent and utilities, we don’t have vehicle loans, credit card or student debts. Most of our larger expenses are covered either through strategic partnerships to help offset the cost, or by simply saving up. If we can’t purchase something and comfortably pay in full upfront, we don’t buy it.
We’re grateful to be in a position where we are educated and enlightened about financial responsibility and awareness, which has allowed us to travel and make the most of our adventures. We’re always happy to share our story to help others to the same!
WHAT ARE YOUR ‘TRAVEL ESSENTIALS’?
When we travel, we often have to be strategic about how and what we pack. With a few big trips under our belt, these are some of our most-used travel essentials: packing cubes, reusable food containers and sandwich bags, microfiber face & body towels, merino wool layers, polarized sunglasses, our beloved Osprey HikeLite 18L, Birkenstock Sandals, and a jack-of-all-trades pocket knife. We rarely buy new gear and shop used when possible.
